Learning English Through
Routines
This article - by Minibus
authors Elisenda Papiol and Maria
Toth - introduces routines, and explains how they can help
build confidence in the classroom. It was originally published
in Primera
Clase, the Heinemann English Teaching Magazine.
Children's Attitudes to Learning English
This article by Jayne
Moon, author of Children Learning English
(Macmillan Heinemann, 2000) explores ways of fostering positive
attitudes towards English and learning in general in children of all
ages.
Classroom Management
Some practical tips for getting and holding students' attention in
class, from the article Silence! (Please) written by the Macmillan
Heinemann Teacher Training team in Spain, with contributions from two of
our authors. Some ideas are more suitable for older children but there
are definitely a few nice techniques here for primary classes.
Classroom
Language
This article is adapted from the first chapter of Classroom
Language by Sagrario Salaberri. She outlines some of the theories
which support the
use
of English as the main language in the classroom from primary
education onwards. Very useful introductory reading for those
teachers
who
do not feel confident enough to use English as the main language
of
communication with their classes or those teachers who do use
English as
the
language of the classroom but who want to improve their technique
or
get
new ideas. The article is available in
English
or
Castilian.
Using
Classroom Language - Start as you mean to go on.
This short
article
includes
a photocopiable worksheet and some practical
ideas
for making the most of day-to-day communicative situations that
arise in class. We hope that some of the activities will be
suitable for
you
and your pupils. This article was first published in
Primera
Clase,
Nº36, 2000. Thanks to Mark Ormerod, Diarmuid Fogarty, Tim Nolan,
Maria
Toth
and Shane Swift.
Storytelling
This extract from the first
chapter of Storytelling by Juan Jesús Zaro
and Sagrario Salaberri is an excellent introduction to the theory and
practice of using stories to teach English at primary level. The article
is available in English or Castilian.
Storytelling tips
Here you'll find some practical
suggestions for types of activities you
could do before, while and after telling a story in
